I'm not completely sure yet...
I'm pissed at the Radiologist, but only on my mom's behalf. I was called on Tuesday afternoon, and was told that the Radiologist ordered another MRI, this time with contrast. When I asked the nurse why, I got no answers, so I sent the following email to my mom's doctor:
My mother is getting very worried about the repeat MRI that was ordered. Was there something wrong with the initial one? I know that the CT scan was all you ordered at first, and now she's had one MRI and the nurse called yesterday saying that the Radiologist wanted another MRI, this time with contrast. What exactly is the Radiologist looking for? No amount of reassurance on my part has made her happy and I know that MRI's are not considered to be "routine testing". Thank you for your attention to this matter.
His reply:
MRI with contrast is recommended primarily because of your mother's history of breast cancer. So far, there are only nonspecific changes which would not require further testing in someone without history of cancer. But because of the cancer history, going ahead with a contrast study is felt to be best approach to rule out malignancy.
Not very reassuring, is it? The MRI is scheduled for the 15th, which is 3 days after her 88th birthday. It just bugs me because my mom isn't your stereotypical 87 or 88 year old. She's bright, quick to respond and is well-read. Not much gets past her, and she thinks "young" she complains that all her friends that are her age are "old". If I live to be that old I hope I'm just as quick and up-to-date as she is. I'm rambling... Well, I guess I just need to wait and see...
Now, I do have good news concerning me: Remember the breast lump I had? I still have it, but after several mammograms and a sonogram, and having my breasts poked and prodded at by several specialists, I was told that my breast lump is definitely not cancer. No more mammograms for me till July. Now that's something to smile about!
Welcome! I live in a world where nothing seems organized to anyone but me. I'm constantly thinking. Even when my life is in an upheaval, I know where my keys are, unless you move them... I can't remember names or words for things, so I use similar words (Kitchen = Garage) I call very few people "friend" It's a title you earn. I don't use it loosely.Don't like my thoughts? Click the white"x"in the little red box and it'll go away. Still here? Enjoy the ride!
